Competition in the truck class has always been high. The rivalry is even tougher now, 2013 models of Chevy Silverado and Dodge Ram are on their ways to the showrooms. There is no doubt about it, 2013 Truck of the Year award next February is a 2013 Dodge Ram vs. 2013 Chevy Silverado contest.
Whether you are familiar with trucks or not, you must know the Chevrolet Silverado. The 2013 Chevy Silverado and its Hybrid variant are coming with minor changes to what we have before. The first noticeable change is that three new colours have replaced the previous colours. It will come in Blue Topaz Metallic, Deep Ruby Metallic and White Diamond Tri-coat. It got its styling tips from past Chevy trucks like the 1955 Cameo and 1988 C/K Silverado. A sleek exterior is expected to contribute to improved gas mileage.
Chevy Silverado 2013 comes in different styles and with different powertrains to suit everyone from a work-truck buyer in Texas to a luxurious commuter in Los Angeles. So, you can go for any of the three body styles, two interior designs, four gas engines, two automatic transmissions and three bed lengths
It may not be as attractive as its rivals but it packs power that is unrivalled. Just like previous models, the new Silverado offers Powertrains that stand out in the class. There is the base 4.3-litre V-6 engine that delivers 195-horsepower, a flex fuel 302-horsepower V8 engine with a four-speed automatic transmission, a flex-fuel 5.3-litre 315-horsepower V-8 engine and a flex-fuel 6.2-litre 403-horsepower V-8. The hybrid model’s EPA ratings are 20-mpg city, 23-mpg highway and it pairs a 6.0-litre V-8 to an electrically variable transmission (EVT) to deliver 332 horsepower and 367 pound-feet of torque.
Features like USB and Bluetooth connectivity, rear back-up camera, satellite radio and a navigation system, and safety features like hill start assist, stability and traction control, and a trailer sway control system are standard in the Chevy Silverado 2013. Price can range from $22,595 to $50,045 depending on the options.
Now, let us look at the Ram. The 2013 Dodge Ram made its debut at the last New York International Auto Show. It has the popular 3.6-litre V-6 engine and the top of the range 5.7-litre V-8 engine with cylinder deactivation as its powertrains. There is a new fuel-saving technology, Pulse-width modulation (PWM) which reduces parasitic electrical load. When either of its two engines is paired with an eight speed automatic transmission system, an auto stop-start technology is available (no wonder it has arguably the best fuel economy figures in the class). Electric power steering is now standard. Mileage expected from the Dodge Ram 2013 is 24/17 Highway/City.
Chrysler does not joke with its styling and technology! You will see features like soft trim on the armrest, an 8.4-inch and 7.0-inch full-colour control screen, mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot in the Dodge Ram 2013. Price will start at around $22,500.
Although the 2013 Chevy Silverado tried with the fundamentals, the design and styling of the 2013 Dodge Ram is tough to surpass. With a flexible set of options, powertrains and body styles, the Silverado will probably edge out the Dodge in a 2013 Dodge Ram vs. 2013 Chevy Silverado contest
